OKURUKURU TARANAKI WINERY

Okurukuru Winery enjoys spectacular coastal views, from the vines rolling down to the rugged Taranaki coastline and across the stunning Tasman Sea.

The vineyard was planted in 2001, its total area is approximately seven acres with Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The vines have struggled against the harsh coastal winds, but with the addition of inter-row shelter, we produced our first harvest in 2006 with a fresh, intensely fruit driven Rosé and the 2009 vintage Pinotage which is currently available. In 2011 we harvested 8 tonnes of grapes half of which will be made into Rose and half Red.

OKURUKURU WINES

Okurukuru wines are produced by Kate Acland, youngest daughter of owner's Peter and Chris. Produced from both the Taranaki vineyard and from selected Marlborough contract vineyards at the Sugar Loaf Winery in Marlborough.

Sugar Loaf Wines is a joint venture between Kate and her father, taking inspiration for the name from the islands that dominate the stunning outlook from Okurukuru. The Marlborough based winery is situated on Rapaura Road, in the heart of Marlborough's wine tourism area.

This year the winery will process 600 tonnes of grapes, from both the adjoining vineyard - 20 acres of Sauvignon Blanc and from 5 contract vineyards throughout Marlborough, as well as producing wine for Okurukuru and several other boutique labels. Both Okurukuru and Sugar Loaf have achieved remarkable success with their wines in recent years.
